On a daily basis, the immune system is constantly bombarded by various negative influences, and they need to be minded with effort. Immune System and How it Works
In a nutshell, the immune system is our body's defensive system against various things, and it is composed of different tissues, organs, proteins, and cells. White blood cells are its main weapon against these intruders. They actually move throughout our bodies via the bloodstream helping to fight off various pathogens. There are four lymphoid organs in the body that help to store white blood cells, which are:
- Bone marrow - Which is inside the bones and creates both red and white blood cells.
- Thymus - Which is a gland located between the neck and lungs.
- Lymph nodes - These are all through the body and are small glands that connect through lymphatic vessels.
- Spleen - It is the body's source of filtering and its the lower side of the abdomen.
- Phagocytes - These are the attacking blood cells. They attack the different pathogens in the body destroying them.
- Lymphocytes - These blood cells are in charge of remembering the pathogens that they have fought off, and if the body senses them again, they deploy defense to do it again.
Disorders Involving the Immune System
Just like the immune systems, disorders that involve the immune system are really complex.
However, disorders with the immune system can be categorized into three groups:
- Autoimmunity - These disorders do not allow the immune system to figure out which tissues are natural and which are harmful foreign tissues. Therefore, it attacks healthy cells. A few of these disorders are rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, and celiac disease.
- Immunodeficiencies - These disorders can be caused by other problems like disease, obesity, alcoholism, and age.
- Hypersensitivity - These disorders cause the immune system to overreact and attack healthy tissues, like anaphylactic shock.
Strengthening the Immune System
Although there are a lot of things that weaken the immune system, there are things that one can do to help strengthen it by simply getting into healthy habits.
A few of those habits are:
- Spend time outside - Vitamin D helps to positively impact the immune system, which sunlight provides.
- Get eight hours of sleep - Not sleeping can cause your immune system to weaken.
- Use PEMF therapy - This type of therapy has been proven to help strengthen the immune system through several studies.
- Avoid drinking alcohol - Although alcohol in small quantities will not hurt you, drinking too much can weaken the immune system.
- Eat nutritious foods - An enriched diet can help strengthen the immune system, which includes eating legumes, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and fruits.
PEMF Therapy and Immune System
PEMF therapy is designed to work on a cellular level to provide the immune system with benefits. This treatment is designed to help all cells. There are different settings that target specific spells, but overall it is beneficial to all cells in the body.
The immune system is made up of cells that all have the same role, to defend against harmful invaders. If those cells become dysfunctional or weakened, the body will experience disease and infections.
PEMF is designed to help charge white blood cells to make sure they are in an optimal condition at all times. It is especially beneficial to neutrophils, which are the weapons of the immune system's ability to fight pathogens.
There was one study done on the PEMF therapy that connected a link between strengthening the immune system and the PEMF therapy.
A Study on the Immune System and PEMF Therapy
Back in 2002, the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, Pharmacology Unit, University of Ferrara in Italy, conducted a study to figure out what the effects of a low-frequency PEMF therapy would have on A2A adenosine receptors. Varani K, Gessi S, Iannota V, Merighi S, Borea PA, Spisani S, Cadossi R, and Cattabriga E were the main investigators of the study.
The study had a control group and a group that was treated with PEMF therapy. Prior to the study's beginning, they ran tests on the participants to establish their adherence to the requirements of the study. After using an adenosine antagonist with high-affinity, they established that both groups had the same of one class of receptor. Participants were exposed to PEMF stimulation and the density of binding sites increased dramatically.
This is important because it is prominent in the A2A adenosine receptors. After this, they found out that exposure PEMF therapy actually caused the AMP levels to increase. Therefore, this study proved that PEMF therapy can lead to a large change in the expression and functionality of adenosine A2A receptors, that help to strengthen the immune system.
Also, any neutrophils that were treated with PEMF therapy had a lower value than the compound of NECA and HE-NECA used in the study.
